Suicide - Durkheim

After 5 weeks of "unexpected vacations", here I´m, again, writting about a topic of my interest releated to my area of study. I decided to choose "Suicide" of Emile Durkheim. In the last weeks we have been learning in Theory about the third major work of this french phylosopher and sociologyst as well.

The interesting point of this work and the main tesis of Durkheim about the suicide, is that it doesn´t focus on individual characteristics. Instead of that, Durkheim said that suicide is caused by a combination of induvidual and social factors.

WWW Virtual Library: Sociology - http://socserv.mcmaster.ca/w3virtsoclib/

I´ve never seen this page, but it looks interesting because there are lists of libraries, Institutions, Associations and courses related to Sociology. It´s like a big data base of what a Sociologist needs to know or read.

Careers in Sociology http://www.abacon.com/socsite/careers.html
In this webpage you can find a kind of descriptions and testimonials about some areas in wich a sociologist can specialize for example Urban Social Work or even Military. I think this is an useful tool, because in the early years in University students don´t have a clear idea in which area can we sociologists specialize our careers.

And the third link is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sociology. It´s a short look in Wikipedia. Maybe it has to be the first approchement to the area and get any idea of what Sociology is all about: the history, the authors, the methods, the development of this science in the 20th century and the related areas to sociology.

It´s always difficult to say goodbye. You just leave all behind: your family, your friends, your love... You don´t really want to go, but in the deap of your heard you know it´s the best. That´s what this song is all about...and what does it mean to me.

I attempted this journey, took some risks and its cost remembers me all the time how difficult it is. But I went away with the promise that one day I was going to go back. Going back full with new experiences. But hopefully, thing won´t change that much until then, so I could recognize them easily...Hopefully I won´t change either, so they could recognize me too.

I took them all with me, they´re always on my thoughts, my dreams, in my heard. The only thing I ask them to is to be happy for me...smile!

=D

Leaving on a jet plane - Chantal Kreviazuk

I'm ... I'm ...

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go
I'm standin' here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breakin', it's early morn
The taxi's waitin', he's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

I'm ...

There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I'll tell you now, they don't mean a thing

Every place I go, I think of you
Every song I sing, I sing for you
When I come back I'll wear your wedding ring

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time, oh, let me kiss you
And close your eyes and I'll be on my way

Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times that I won't have to say ...

Oh, kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

And I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

But I'm leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
